Painting Ten - The Fish Pier
When I was in high school many moons ago I worked after school for a company called Yankee Lobster at the Fish Pier in Southie. I used to assemble and stencil styrofoam boxes in which lobsters would be shipped all over the World. I loved that job, especially the sounds and smells of the water, the seagulls and old rusty boats with their hoists and lines. I used to hang out the window for hours breathing in the salt air. I never imagined that someday I would get the opportunity to enjoy this feeling again. Today was that day. I took my bike out as far as I could go out near the World Trade Center. No one around but me and the birds. It was hot which prompted hotter colors than I usually use but I still only used the four paints I told you about: Thalo blue, Permanent rose, Lemon yellow and Paynes gray. Once again I drew with my rigger and just had fun laying in washes and lines in an abstract manner. It takes a while to get to this point where you can improvise with water color but it is very satisfying when you do. What a country!
