My Reading Chair
Here is a line drawing of my favorite chair. I spend most of every day in this spot reading the paper or art books or watching dvds. It is a nice, cozy leather chair made even more comfortable with the hassock and when necessary, my snuggy which I included. The thng I like the most about this spot is the light. On sunny days (rare as they are) I can simply open the blinds and read or draw for hours with natural light. On overcast days I use the swing lamp over my right shoulder for reading, over the left for drawing. By the way, for those of you who are right handed, pay attention that the light is coming from the left so shadows are not falling on your paper.
I highly recommend these interior scenes. They are way more difficult to do than you might imagine. There are all sorts of challenges in terms of scale, perspective, foreshortening, etc. You can opt to use tone or even color but line drawings , in my opinion, are the most difficult of all to pull off. They look easy but believe me they are not. Excellent practice though and done in the comfort of my home.
Thank you Tommy Steiner for your comment the other day. I am happy that you and Patty are painting away and even framing stuff. That's exciting! Please consider joining the Southie Art Association. We can use more visual artists and it would be helpful to your progress.
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
