Silhouette Studies

silhouette studies.jpgBecause it is 29 degrees today I was planning on doing another drawing for my indoor series but I came across an interesting article in the online version of the Boston Globe.  There was apparently a photo contest and today they revealed the winners of the November Silhouettes.  Well, since I am constantly searching for good shapes to draw and paint what better way to spend an hour than to select my own winners.  I ended up with eight silhouettes that I feel worthy enough to go into a future painting and drew those in pencil on one page of my sketchbook. Another challenge I gave myself was to design a balanced, nice looking sketch page so a lot of thought was given to where each drawing would go and how big it would be.

By the way, Dan McCole and I are going to begin teaching kids in Southie how to draw and paint after school beginning in January at the Woods School of Dance.  Dan will be doing the winter/spring session and when I return from Florida I will take over for the summer/fall.  I hope to also teach drawing and watercolor lessons to adults on Saturdays from June to November.  Thanks for reading my blog.  This started out as a place where I could keep in touch with the folks who took my art class at the Tynan earlier this year but I have found it an excellent way to measure my own progress as an artist.  I look forward to continuing the process.  I wish all of you a very merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.  Warm regards, Bob
