Denise's Garden #1
Yesterday I felt the urge to spend time in Denise's Garden. Denise Cogliano was my girlfriend who died suddenly at the age of 38 after exercising in Florida in March of 2010. Needless to say, this tragic event deeply affected me and so many other people who also loved her. My friends Billy Gleason and Lorraine Downey and many other wonderful people in the West Broadway Neighborhood Association decided to honor her memory by planting a garden across the street from where she and I lived together for almost 4 years. The garden was designed to feature Denise's favorite color (pink) year round and is really a stunning tribute overlooking the city she loved. I walked by the garden every day this summer with Bruno, Denise's Yorkie, but rarely stopped to really enjoy the space. It was just too painful. Yesterday that changed. I decided to explore the garden as an artist not a grieving lover. I took my camera and took lots of shots from all sorts of angles with the intention of capturing the essence of the garden. This is my first attempt, a little watercolor greeting card I will send to Denise's brother John, the guy she loved the most after Joe (her dad), me, and Clint Eastwood.
