Fall Fantasy

This is another attempt at capturing the beautiful colors of fall in New England. I am too lazy to drive to Vermont or New Hampshire so I just look for color combinations in the city trees and then make up my own compositions to play around. This is a classic format using unequal horizontal spacing to move and entertain the viewer's eye. I always am reminded of musical notes dancing across the page when I use this technique. I had to be careful not to let the reflections in the foreground water steal too much of the show from the tree line which is my focal point. I love to paint with abandon like this but it is always risky. I wish that I had staggered the heights of the trees a bit more. They are too uniformly sized for my taste but I like the horizontal spacing and varied direction of the trees and the use of different blues in the sky and water. I'm sending this to my friend Mike Flaherty who just celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Peg. Hope he likes it.
