Friday Night Chill

I invented this scene as a teaching tool and I love it. This type of painting is so foolproof it becomes therapeutic. You can make mistakes and easily fix them. You can let washes run wild. What fun making up rocks and trees. A geologist would probably challenge my rocks but I only care how they look. The background glazes are simple. I just needed to find a value one or two steps lighter than my foreground trees. I simplified the entire process by limiting the painting to just two colors: ultramarine and burnt sienna. Those two were meant for each other, a good marriage you might say.
