Naples Palm Tree with Cottage

Here is a scene I noticed while out walking this morning. I went back later with my sketchbook and my grandson Jack who is visiting for a week. We both sat down in the shade and had a go at capturing large palm and small white cottage. Of course it turned into a lecture about the importance of good shapes in making a picture and Jack was quick to catch the concept of how shapes can be manipulated to be even more interesting than what they actually are. He also loved the effect of the ink and water pens used together. I told him "Someday you will look at this sketch and remember this moment when we sat under a shade tree and did a drawing together in Florida." Awesome!
