Palm Beach

After two weeks of thirty or forty something degree weather the Florida sun remembered where it was and now we are in the seventies.  I took advantage of the beautiful day by going outside with my sketchbook and camera.  I suppose the royal palms are the first thing that anyone would notice who comes here from up north.  They are gracefully beautiful and lots of fun to draw and paint.  They are so tall that a vertical format seemed logical and I love the way they are light against dark in some places and then dark against the sky.  I did this from a sketch I did near Palm Beach itself and made it into a greeting card I intend to send to my Aunt Barbara who has been sick.  I hope she gets some comfort from looking at these strong and rhythmic trees.
