Waiting For Spring

Watercolor of Castle Island Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Return to Sketchbook

I took Bruno for a walk around Castle Island this morning and it was cold.  I love this spot more than any other in Southie but on days like this it sure feels like the prison it once was.  When I was a kid Spring came in March.  What happened?  I guess I can't complain when people in other parts of our country are suffering from floods and tornadoes, so I won't.  I'll just keep walking my dog, painting watercolors and wait patiently for Spring.  One thing I should point out to any painters out there is that on overcast days like this the sky is actually very bright.  This is because the sun is trapped behind a wall of clouds and acts like a fluorescent light; not blue but bright white. For more on the subject I would refer you to Betty Schlemm's seminal "Painting With The Light".
